Now, I have no idea what the IRS would do or say about submitting such a 1099, but it doesn't really matter, he thought I'd send it in and that was enough motivation for him to act, that's all I cared about.

I don't see that many larger funds earnings nearly those returns on an ongoing basis and it makes sense because there are only so many assets where you can put large amounts of capital to work on an ongoing basis and most of those asset classes have few motivated sellers or can be really risky even for experienced operators.
