I think if you have confidence in a property manager in your area it can be a good decision.

It can provide financial relief and combat loneliness, fostering a sense of community.

You gave me a lot to think about, I am confident the rent can be increased and have a contractor/property manager lined up who has inspired a lot of confidence and comes with good references. 

Ultimately, if you find the right land and feel confident in the building process, it could be a great way to create a space that meets your needs.

With this being said, the fear of being "tied" to all of these potential problems - definitely fosters hesitation and in many cases - no action.
