I like the soffit vents with a ridge vent as convection moves the air nicely to prevent ice dams and keeps the roof cool in the summer.Currently there is no ventilation.

you can get dam good liability protection for less than a thousand dollars, and even if you spend a few thousand dollars you should get even better protection.

I do think Breck is a differne place than Aspen, Vail, or Beaver Creek.

I know there are hundreds of miles of snowmobiling trails, as well as Beaver Mountain right there.

Second, you have created an obstruction on the roof that forces a harder flow of water around it, so you want to make sure the surrounding roof has some added precaution, especially if your roof is a low-slope (say 4:12 pitch or so)If I were putting in a skylight, with no roof on the house, I would have the rubberized ice-dam sheeting product on the roof immediately surrounding the skylights so that the heavier flow of water around the skylight has no opportunity of getting underneath and leaking through anywhere.
