Hi all, I am Jack, a super rookie investor based in the Bay area.

The Bay Area is a very expensive housing market to get into, for me, it’s more financially feasible to start investing in the midwest.  

I can't speak to other states but I know in San Francisco Bay Area, LA and San Diego (expensive coastal cities) that if someone buys at a discount then can do a fix and flip and make a nice profit (before capital gains tax).

I sold a condo I bought in the San Francisco Bay Area because of the ever increasing HOA fees (increased 3 times in over 2 years to $605 a month) - really wanted to keep it because it was in a good location for commuters but the numbers didn't work. 

I really enjoyed the ones in Pasadena and Manhattan Beach/South Bay.

Wealth in real estate is built on appreciation over a long period of time (e.g many investors in Bay Area and LA) but on BP and social media, cash flow is constantly pushed in inexpensive locations which likely won't appreciate enough to make up for all the costs.
