Random, unassigned and apparently unpaid for storage, absolutely not.

There is an abundance of types of assets between storage, multifamily, retail, and many more you need to first find what you want to get into. 

Some dealers would be excited to do some spec homes if they dont have to pay space rent (we call them storage agreements here in SoCal).

My worst Airbnb experience was in a house with tons of sloppy homemade storage and clutter (the bed I slept in was a bunk bed but top bunk was loaded with misc. crap), unclean shared spaces (toothpaste flecks on mirror and all over sink, floss hanging out of the trash can), only one thin towel that I had to ask for, bad outlet access, and no top sheet on the bed.

If you're from the area you know NoVA isn't the easiest place to traditionally buy.I have a storage unit full of good-quality furniture that I'd love to make use of (and save on that monthly bill).

You could consider keeping it empty and using it for your own storage.
