To answer a previous poster's question, yes, 13,000 square feet is plenty room to plant fruit trees, have a garden with a stream in it and waterfall, bbq, large swimming pool, shed for the long boards and a 5 bed / 6 bath house.

If you have it installed only on the hot water side it will use less salt and regenerate less often, and put less salt into your waste stream (remember, all the salt that's used in the softener is in your water now, so if you have septic it's now in your septic).
