I recently discovered my passion in volunteering and would really love to build a passive income early on so I can focus my time on doing that (putting in the time seems more gratifying then just sending a check).  

But at least it's safe and UCLA fans are very nice people. and on and on and on...Please do your due diligence  before leaving Cincinnati for Los Angeles unless you can "out earn" any unpleasantness that an unplanned relocation FROM Los Angeles might entail. 

All an LLC with do is add a layer of protection like @Neil Aggarwal said you can use use your name like many do but you have to ask yourself, if the brown stuff hits the fan do you want the IRA account or anyone else to come after you personally or an LLC that has protection on its side.
