If so then I could try and buy lot 16 for $500 and then get the house under contract hopefully at a deeper discount and I would have lots 13-16.If someone else were to buy the house with the title issue and I owned lot 16, I could sell them lot 16 for $2,000 so that they could have clear title.

I've not heard or seen that podcast, there are some sharp folks who may do a podcast or put information out that aren't fully informed, grazing over some finance topic may give implications that may not be completely true, finance is like that, it goes much deeper than what is generally described, even in official documents as they use terms such as "owner occupied" without going into detail.

Rules to follow in real estate investingif the numbers don't work don't do it don't get emotionally involved with sellers, you have to be an a****** about it, but you do need to be realistic about what's possible for you to help them, look at joint venturing with the seller to fix up properties and get some kind of profit by helping them
