And when a collapses due to foundation, water, or other support problems the chimney is the one thing left standing.I have one house that the chimney appears to be separating from the house, but in fact someone had been the crawl space and undermined (or just removed) the jacks used to stabilize the house.

If something appears after closing that they didn't tell you about, that's when the insurance aspect kicks in.I suggest you order title insurance and ask them for a "preliminary title report" so you can start reading about all the other things people will be allowed to do on your property.

Up here, some apartment complexes have numbers on the units and buildings that appear to work one way, yet the mailing addresses work an entirely different way.

While Craig's List appears to be the go to site in the US, as @Kyle J. pointed out, the best place to advertise depends on your market.Here, and in may other parts of Canada, Kijiji has far more traction than Criag's List ... though that may shift now with Kijiji's new policy on charging for more than X for rent ads and the amounts they are proposing to charge.
