Price is actually a really good filter, you may not reliaze that but when you lay price filters on a mls map with listings you get the exact outline of the Trulia blue areas. 

I also browsed Zillow looking for bargain based houses in Los Angeles.

It also depends on where your "local" area is... there's a big difference in living in somewhere like Los Angeles or the Midwest.

If someone new called me as a GC out of blue I’d probably write them off too, but if you said hey I have a property that needs work and I was referred to you by “so and so” and I’m looking to complete by ______ that would be a start.
