However, I hope you know stock market is in most case just luck.

Any flip "properly assessed" should more than cover the $1000...I believe Josh or Brandon as well as numerous other including Kiyosaki have posts and books on why real estate out performs stocks.

I always had about 8k a year left over after tuition and I saved that money and used it in the stock market. 

I haven't done any deals yet but I have been playing around in the stock market a bit to get enough money to start investing in real estate which is my ultimate goal and what I've been studying like crazy the last few months.

Now stocks....

The other reason being that from what my friends who invest in the china stock market have told me, the small individual investors who got in late are the ones hardest hit, however this is not the demographics that has the means to buy houses in the USA. 

I'm 25 years old and have mainly focused on index investing in the stock market over the past 6 years.

Something along the lines of 30% money in a cash flow real estate market, 30% in an appreciation market, 20% dividend stocks, 10% lending, 10% bonds/cash.

I need the income from the rental properties now and was considering buying the rental properties instead of doing the stock market?? 

(401k, insurance, vacation days, stable cash flow, possible stock matching, etc) If you have a family and kids, don't be in too much of a hurry to quit your job!
