ConEd used to sell excess steam (byproduct) when it "bought out" the plants from NYC itself - it does not do so anymore, as far as I know - this was the cheapest heating option at the time and is still used in Europe extensively esp where it is cold!

This is no different than the tenant going out of the country for a month and asking the neighbor to come over twice a week and bring in the mail, water the plants, and make sure all is well inside the home.

I have a small enough business that I know my uninsured contractors well enough to know that they won't try to extort/screw me by faking injury or intentionally causing damage to property.

Sadly,I think you will find a lot of wholesalers use fake POF letters they get from their hard money lender buddies.Most desperate homeowners don't know any better and accept it at face value without investigating the validity of the letter.
