If I were to design a 4-year degree program for investors, it would contain the following courses:Communications, accounting, finance, micro/macroeconomics, banking, communications, negotiations, sociology, financial planning, and then communications.Basically, all the things a strong investor needs to have a good working knowledge of to have a diverse portfolio.

Sorry you mentioned Whole Life as a type of Insurance, but your were speaking about Universal Life which is just as bad, they contain cash values which isn't something I'm for.This is what you said:(I would probably buy both a term policy and a Variable Universal Life policy)
