We turned what could've been an LTR into an MTR so we could get our feet wet with regards to systems and processes before going all in on a luxury cabin to use as a short term rental.

Hello,I'm just starting on my real estate journey, and house hacking seems to be the best way to get my feet wet.

Start small, get your feet wet, and move forward. 

If after you get your feet wet you are up to it you can move on to higher risk / higher reward properties.

I hope to get into development myself, once I get my feet wet on some renovation projects.

IMO if you have the time and passion for it, jump into a small MFH directly (6-12 units) or so just to get your feet wet and your network built.
