We're looking for an accountant with expertise in real estate accounting and would be nice if they own rental property as well.

I choose not to because 1) not my expertise, and 2) involves land development, lot's of city politics, and is thus more risky.

If their portfolio skews too heavy in one direction it can mean just backing away from that "sector" as a way to mitigate risk in their portfolio.
