As for the furnaces exhaust, most systems will need you to run an intake and exhaust out either through the roof or for some applications through the side of the house.

In taking the leap I am going to assume that knocking on doors, etc will bring enough deals to me to find ones where the numbers work.

Unless you had high efficiency direct vent systems installed (not so common with boilers, but they exist), the extra burners will require more intake air for combustion.

Really the most significant hit recently was in taking away benefits.

I have not had issues with property maintenance outside of what I would consider normal concerns for preserving the property.There is an event/idea called "Mortgagee In Possession" which can sometimes occur when a Mortgagee steps in taking possession of the real property while finishing foreclosure proceedings.
