If you're going to self-manage you should definitely pick market(s) that you are familiar with.

There's a bunch of online courses available, look for the ones that offer the self-paced $100-$150 courses.

@Savannah Holzer Well, if I stay with SFR as my strategy, then yes, at least at first, while I figure out the self-mangage/landlord gig.

If you buy units and park them with a PM you will likely have a much harder time reaching this goal than if you self manage.
