As you aready mentioned, TN also does not have a state income tax so I suspect there is no consequence but I believe Illinois is a state income tax state and there probably would be consequences of needing to file.I have property in Maryland that has a state income tx and they require filing that I do every year.Have you tried to go to the state web sites to investigate further?

At an 8 cap the property is now valued in excess of $1.1 million and I am in the process of refinancing to a longer term commercial loan to lock in these low rates for at least the next five years.

They must confirm that you do/don't need any permits, and authorize this with a signature.  

Did the prior landlord authorize it? 

That said, I refinanced recently and found some credit pulls that I did not authorize.
