Make sure you pick light paint colors throughout, get rid of any heavy/dark curtains and such, upgrade or install bright light fixtures where needed, etc.This all comes from my own experience in Southern California.

There's all kinds of reasons not to allow it (i.e. they rarely/never do a good job, there's no incentive for them not to cut corners since it's not really their house, they could get hurt doing the work, they tend to pick weird colors, if the work doesn't come out good you have have little/no recourse, etc). 

Red brick and green accents= Christmas colors too!

CEILINGS, BASE, CASE AND WINDOW SILLS WHITE AND REST OF WALLS ONE COLOR.

I put the cheapest fixtures, paint everything the same color, very basic trim and molding, no ceiling fans, etc.

I just started an absentee owner campaign where I'm split testing white envelopes vs color.

We actually love going to model homes and seeing all the decor I always get such good ideas and what colors are popular.

So not wearing any rose-colored glasses here.  

Now, if you are in a business entity that contracts in that entity name and you are compensated inside the company for a job well done, that's a horse of a different color!
