My wife was a vocal performance major in college, and has been working mostly admin-assistant type jobs in the past (being a vocal performer doesn't pay much for most).We're moving to Greensboro, NC in the middle of January, 2016, and are extremely exited to be in a new area where things are alive and growing!

Idea is that buying and renting home/ duplex/ quad in college town will be cheaper than dorm room for my son, since he will be paying for tuition.

For myself, I chose blue collar areas and 2+ bedrooms, near schools (not colleges per se).
