Aside from gaining an educational foundation for real estate, what else would I need to do before investing in my first house?

My thinking is, you can always start by educating yourself, either through the BP forums (which you're doing!)

Hold for awhile and split the profits or have a public auction almost immediately after you control it.These are just a few ideas that should stimulate your creative juices.
