The easiest solution is to wait to buy, move down and rent, establish the new job and then buy but I'm wondering if there is a work around so the timing is a little smoother/I don't have to move into a temporary rental.

If you're in a hot market you might find that someone will pay good money as is and by the time you wait/pay for repairs you're going to come out more or less the same.Example being- 185k house as isVs205 with 15k in repairs.
