If the property is vacant, there shouldn't be much of an issue, but if the property has squatters then you may need to get the authorities involved first if you are going to show it.My opinion is, if you go door knocking in the middle of the day you shouldn't run into any major issues.

To complicate things more, the tenant is section 8, they were only paying $100 of a $700 rent but I'll have to figure this out with the housing authority too.

It makes virtually no difference if the lender knows or not.  1) they are getting paid as per the contract 2) Their property is insured wth them and you and you are a fully authorized person on the account.
