I had/have the same questions, but based on my short experience during a freak snowstorm in middle of Spring, I kept thinking that I would really like to be a part of this renaissance. 

Some of them I fall short on.

However, everyone is working off of their feet or short ladders. 

I have come slightly close to getting out all of my initial investment in the short term but I have not gotten out all of my investment (purchase + rehab) out due to 1) typically we do not get 80% LTV (we typically get 70% LTV) 2) the refi appraisals come in below market value (common issue in san Diego).Therefore I have yet to achieve the infinite return in the short term. 

I have not had an opportunity to network for money partners yet due to working full time and going to school; however, at least for the short term, work is out of the picture and I am starting my last semester of school in two weeks.

Both stocks and RE are good investments over the long term. 

That being said my short term goal was to use this as an STR through AirBnB and/or VRBO.

The stock market never shows that there a negate times and it is looked at very well because of it's complication of the Stock Market and contributions are higher versus Real Estate which only might have more to learn but is easier to learn the basics.
