If they won't allow any inspection or previewing then expect a complete gut job and bid on what you can see.Fannie "sent" the property back to the originating bank most likely, banks don't just buy properties.

I was with a bigger real estate company before I took a job that wouldn't allow me to actively be a real estate agent.

FWIW I'm more in your situation with full time job etc so I started with rentals to build up my reserves for larger deals.  

I originally moved here because I got a software development job at Google in their office here.

Rents are going up a lot right now because of the jobs here.

I have decent 9 to 5 job but I live in Los Angeles so money runs out quickly.
