This is my first public post and I'm hoping for some encouragement and insight into the decisions and direction I am heading...My family of 4 is moving next week out of our SFR in Milwaukee (between the airport and Bay View for those that are in the area) and moving to a duplex which we will live in it as a single family while our kids are growing up.

I am under contract for a property at 295k for a 1977 3b2b, 1984 2b1b, a double storage shed, and a covered double car port on 4.25 acres of unrestricted land.

He did a full renovation and in the process switched from a wall heater/central forced air unit to mini splits.

Las terrenas is beautiful and growing as well but for family and short term rentals is an ideal place being that it’s close to la romana, Santo Domingo, miches, bayahibe, and to the airport as well.

.- Both boilers installed new 2017- Both electric panels upgraded 2015  - Shared Backyard access for bottom 2 units- No Parking, No Central Air- House built before 1900- Roof about 20Yrs old- Assume Fed cuts rate at least .25 point later this year Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Assume a 10% (pulled out of the air number) interest rate on the heloc.

Plans to were announced last month to invest $2B into the cities airport in anticipation of the population/business travel growth. 

If you were looking to house hack I would recommend finding something that you could rent the top out as an air bnb (STR) and live in the basement with a completely separate entrance.

If not, sell it and move to another investment/market.I was in Honolulu last week and it was all over the news further tightening of Air bnb. part of the issues is the 9000 homeless after the Maui fire and owners not wanting to rent to those displaced..
