It was looked upon by those founding fathers as providing a system so as not to prevent anyone from being able to do what is necessary to provide for their own welfare not "sit on your but and I will give this to you because you voted for me"It also allowed for the communities to provide for those who are trying but were down on their luck without the governmnet prohibiting such activities by regulating commerce or religious organizatons that would help these people.

That would prevent people from essentially deleting months worth of posts and destroying many threads, but it would still allow people to edit posts that they've just recently written.
