I have seen streets where investors buy almost every house, rehab them all, and try to make the whole area appreciate in value, but I think that's rare and involves a significant investment.

@Jim StanleyPersonally, I think House #2 sounds better, with the quieter street and bigger backyard :) I've never cared for fireplaces and I kinda like an unfinished basement (assuming you can get the price right) because you can see a lot more during an inspection.
