I spent all day yesterday reading articles and blog posts on biggerpockets and other websites from the 50% rule to taxes to landlording, and am amazed at how little I know and how much there is to know.I am planning on being in Boston for 1-2 years at least and am looking for a place to be a short-term residence that is close to work, etc, rather than as a rental property.

Make sure to listen to all the BP podcasts, read the articles on the main blog and be active in these forums to learn a ton very quickly about any topic in real estate you want to know more about.

If you do a Google Search with the following words, you should get a few articles describing the basic law: "Pennsylvania" "wage garnishment" "landlord."
