If you are buying a new home that is similar, it will have virtually the same appreciation.

Old would be virtually anything else - galvanized, cast iron, clay, cement, asbestos-cement (AC), or orangeburg.

Neighborhood Scout has Oakland, like virtually all coastal CA cities, 10/10 for appreciation this century (Oakland is 9/10 for the state, both are the same as my market). 

@Jack Ha -   Not sure if you have listened to any of his podcasts/videos, but Haim Mamane (the virtual wholesale guy) had a great system of buying homes from owners and wholesaling them without ever seeing them (or really ever coming to Memphis).

Call my pump guy, he comes out pops the lid and tank is virtually solidified to the top, no pumping in probably a few decades (I bought this house out of an estate).
