One semi-radical thought that I had which I probably won't do, because it doesn't scale, would be to buy a beater car and just leave it parked at the house(s) to give the impression that someone's there.Ultimately, provided my remaining appliances all work, I'm going to be out about $4,500 if I pay for new mechanicals out of pocket.

I was under the impression that non-US persons cannot directly invest and have to establish a US company or some other tax ID number.

Often they are impressed and interested in the field.

That person was under the impression that these forums are a great place to find information to use for their business and worth repeating to clients.  

I have looked up quite a few of your records and the list was quite impressive. 

I wasn't a potential buyer and she doesn't have any reason to impress me with her wealth.   

I'm impressed that you're not willing to gamble on getting into  a bad situation due to low reserves.
