Good will of the company, name recognition, another successful project for lenders or investors in seeing your track record, the intrinsic values of promoting yourself.

If I had to guess, it's a a story and not a reality made up to promote the fire drill.

You'd promote it, and rent it out. 

It is a massive undertaking.Now in terms of getting BP or someone else to publish, I imagine it will take a lot of hard work and self promotion.

Make sure you have your plan and team put together, how you're going to sell and promote, and if it doesn't sell, what is your exit strategy. 

I was going to live with my brother for a while to help me get off my feet, but he recently got a promotion and is moving to Virginia.

As Kyle J. already indicated, there is a patten of activity from some companies online to send people to promote their business on forums without disclosing their associations and relationship with those companies.

However, it looks like the seller / agent promoted the house with a "newly refinished" basement....if the seller had that work done, it should be easily provable, and shame on them.  

I don't know anything about that biz or how hard it would be to scale.You could also consider being a passive investor for qualified promoters of which there are plenty on BP.
