Canada is a major provider of natural resources for the U.S. so as long as Trump is going to be imposing protectionist tariffs the cost of everything will rise.All natural resources from Canada, and every other country, will be increased in price to cover the tariffs.

Looks like the mold was probably caused from the washer leaking or something of that nature.

In older homes I've seen them over beautiful plaster ceilings many, many times.
