That's very pretty much what I do. 90% of rents don't even read the ad, so I wish Zillow had a system that made applicants read the ad first or had some kind of pre-qualifying system landlords could use before allowing applicants to fire off an inquiry.

Only because someone stepped up to preserve the value and to pay the taxes.If the senior heirs don't wish to sign away their interest, but also aren't willing to probate their interest, then it still not 'scummy' to preserve the home by using it.
