The bottom line with ANY type of marketing is traffic/eyes looking at it.  

They overlap at the bottom of the U, so that pair of cleanouts allows you to clean the entire line. 

BTW - the foam might serve as more than insulation - it helps to make the bottom more rigid when somebody steps in.
