More to your point - which I think is less "don't invest in 401(k)" and more "don't invest in 401(k) when that means that you set aside a bunch of money each paycheck just because your company and *big brand mutual fund company" tell you it's the smart thing to do.If you don't understand what you are doing, it seems like you will lose no matter which way you spin it ;).

But if the landlord was honest, told me the situation, told me it's his fault for pricing it too low and the only way to resolve the issue  (too many applicants) fairly was to raise rent and that raising rent now meant he wouldn't need to raise rent next year (see the positive spin here)...
