The Germans went through so much emotional turmoil during hyperinflation that it set-up the psychology for Hitler and also for getting revenge on the Jewish Rothchild bankers who they perceived as the cause of their problems.England followed suit after Germany and devalued their currency and cheap exports being dumped forced the US and the rest of the world to put up Smoot-Harley tariffs.

But Bay Area was not immune to a down turn in 89 to 92 saw 50% devaluation in many sub markets of the Bay Area.. my brother in law picked up an awesome house in Los Altos hills in 92 for 1.2 million and in 87 it sold for 2.5   and now worth who knows how much 6 to 8 million probably.

We don't need it to outpace inflation - just to appreciate in prices inversely proportionally to devaluation of currency.
