The last thing I want to do is find a great property to invest in, realize that the CEO of the company I invested in had an affair with his secretary, and the value is down 20% leaving me scrambling.

There is always someone trying to spin this into something else... suddenly this is a matter of the government trying to interfere with the free market when you have a corporation trying to meddle with and influence the affairs of the state so it can profit at the expense of the cities and in some cases landlords.

At this point, my thought is keep it simple while you get your affairs in order and pick up as much knowledge as you can, then go out and kick some tail.

@Juan Ayala , the standard VA loan escape clause follows:It is expressly agreed that, notwithstanding any other provisions of this contract, the purchaser shall not incur any penalty by forfeiture of earnest money or otherwise be obligated to complete the purchase of  the property described herein, if the contract purchase price or cost exceeds the reasonable value of the property established by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

You can call the bluff on fake orders... although you are right they happen often.You can independently verify by calling the primary directory for the installation and requesting contact information for the Public Affairs Officer of your tenant’s unit.
