I have worked under a custom home builder here in Asheville part time and am very familiar and comfortable doing most of the work myself.

@Carissa Meek, a friend of mine (former builder) responded to me asking this question with: how much does it cost to buy a car?

Also when building from ground up, always expect actual delivery to be 90 days later than what the builder tells you it will be.

We currently manage 5 or 6 with one builder alone.

My plan tomorrow is to search for builders who specialize in multifamily and/or townhouses and see if they can give me a ballpark for what I should expect to pay as well.

Talking with them, I realized that builders have general timelines of when things need to be completed and when decisions need to be made by the homeowner- director of the build.

You do this by analyzing the market, talking to realtors, property management companies, appraisers, builders and developers in the area to find out of there is a demand for the product you have in mind.
