Code varies from area but here a smoke detector is required within X feet of a bedroom door so this makes 1 detector per floor.

Kevin,A 7 unit is a tougher sell.It's just over the 5 unit threshold but not many lenders like to play int hat space because of the small fees they make.When you go up in unit size and price more lenders are in the marketplace for multifamily.What was your 7 unit priced at per door??

I while ago I read a post on BP about someone putting slanted drip pans under the sink so that if there is a leak water flows on the floor it is reported by a renter rather than pool and cause water damage especially in a second floor unit.
