However, I'd be surprised if you weren't able to make house hacking a duplex work numbers-wise in medium-sized markets and larger, especially if you are willing to set up the vacant side as an STR in a travel market with reasonable STR regulations.

Was just wondering if anyone has experience on whether it would be more convenient to use a Heloc to build and then refinance to pay off Heloc or just a standard construction loan to a permanent loan.A little bit of extra info: -it would be our first build -it will be a full concrete build (roof too) -We have enough equity in one of our houses to cover the build cost of both builds if we use a HELOC.

If you haven't already gotten a lender preapproval and you haven't found an agent, I would do those things, and you'd be surprised how quickly things could start moving from there.If you want to buy two separate properties, buy your primary residence first with a FHA loan or low down payment conventional loan.

I ask tenants to mail check or money orders to my po box for rent payments so usually don't need receipt....they can access endorsed check through their bank.I dont want to run around picking up cash both for convenience and safety...congrats on your rental!
