So if it would beneficial not to include the construction company then I won't but if it's a win-win for both me/taxes and Dan's co. then we will use his company in the mix - write checks to his company for material, labor, etc... and then show that he's not hardly making anything so he would basically pay taxes on his labor (not subcontractors) and his profit (which would be very little)... by doing it this way then I would have more expense...

I generally hire laborers to do scrape the old one off and I've "taught" a few buddies (aka "Tom Sawyer") how to roof.Like most things on house repairs materials are probably 20% of the cost, the rest is (someone else's if you pay) labor.all cashall cash

I think the transitional strip is a great idea, that's probably the best solution to the carpet issue.As for the paint on walls and cabinets, yea I could propose that I pay for materials and he do it himself.
