I've dealt with wood floors and lots of painting / refinishing stuff, repainting the walls and having the floors professionally refinished will completely solve it; make sure you have them actually refinish them and you will be fine.

No need to remove the vapor barrier - this will be on the warm side of the wall (outside in Florida) In northern climates the location of the vapor barrier may need to be relocated depending on the amount of existing insulation and the amount to be added
