One thing I've done to keep the walls looking nicer is to put the plastic strips on all the outside corners.

Worst case, you buy one that's ground floor with a patio instead of a balcony, but if it's basement, stay away.

A hole in the wall was concealed with that plastic molding that goes up against the wall where it meets the floor.

I once flipped a house in about 2 weeks that had 6 aluminum sliding patio doors.

He built a nice cover over the patio, painted the exterior and some other things.

If you can get an access maintenance agreement from that neighbor it may not be any worse than a patio-home or condo arrangement of having access to the back from only one side, so marketability is limited but not killed off entirely.
