I'm aware of those scams and I verify all employment by looking up the employer and calling or visiting them (last one would be for an extreme case, calling and internet sluething is good enough).

You've also concentrated your equity so you can do a cash out refinance on that property without affecting the other loan at all. 

If not you can get one off the internet or any smart phone App Store. 

They live in another state and I dont know exactly where they went and the internet is super confusing on who is legit.
