If you get an undesirable tenant, the solution is to break up and not try to enforce a random slick thing in a lease that a judge will likely not allow anyways.

It is not your fault they decided to break up, and you do not have to relieve her of her financial obligation (and I certainly would tell anyone calling for a referral for her that she is still under lease with you).

I tend to agree with hunter, rent is being paid already, so you screen her more for damage or disturbance issues with joint income obviously  ok....and you may end up with her there much of the time anyway if they are serious....In my experience, your only risk is the break up and being left with just her, but that may not happen or be a lease or two away and you could cross that bridge then (by not allowing her to be there solo)...

I have this in my lease clause for the very reason you describe.. if a boyfriend/girlfriend break up..
