We are also a military family...our recent move (assigned for a decade to the UK) hit us hard in the pocketbook, as we'd had about half of each year with tax-free income, and a nice COLA to offset the dollar to the pound.

I don't want to be pennywise and pound foolish yet I don't want to spend money needlessly.Know the difference between adequate flooring, painting, etc.. and overkill.  

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"...wah, wah, wahhhh....Unfortunately, there is not usually much that can be done to avoid becoming a victim of such disasters other than investing in areas that are less prone to this type of weather activity.

Well that is a lot of weight so I borrowed my friends large brand new dump trailer set up to haul over 15,000 pounds of weight.
