Municipalities must follow state law too, I've found to get the finance department moving, instead of calling them I call the city attorney and tell them they are holding up my sale, that usually means he will call to get things done IAW state law time lines for the release of liens. :)

In California, the laws are very tenant-friendly - I believe several months have to go by before eviction can happen.

As long as they had a means of heating their home to acceptable temperatures And you fixed the problem within as reasonable time period according to state law then I do not see that you would be required to pay anything towards it legally.

I would be surprised if there were not usury laws in all states that place a legal limit on the interest that can be charged on loans.

How lead law is enforced seems to be very state specific.
