The learning-by-doing makes the biggest difference, but I wouldn't have had the confidence to do anything if it weren't for the great content that this community provides.Thanks to everyone in the community for being part of that education.

sounds like a convenient cop-out to me. i'm all for people experimenting like this, especially when it benefits the community. as far as tracking hours, most volunteer organizations already do this. if you're sending them volunteers i'm sure they'd be happy to send you accounting of hours volunteered.
