I haven't found the closing costs to be any higher than with a traditional loan and I have several portfolio loans.

@Isaac Geller I can't speak for the all areas of the US but generally phone calls are still done through the traditional phone networks/phone numbers.

They usually learn about it when the title company asks for a payoff notice (as they would with a traditional purchase.)Otherwise, banks only seem to notice a change was made if the loan starts to default.
